Meetings & Conferences

Providing an environment of learning & networking — SIIM offers members and others quality professional development and an environment of education, learning opportunities, information exchange, resources, and networking with peers.

SIIM meetings and its educational program are recognized as the main resource of unbiased information for the digital imaging community.

SIIM Annual Meeting

The SIIM Annual Meeting provides a vibrant community and collegial forum for learning and networking with peers and thought leaders in the imaging informatics field. This is where physicians, health care IT decision-makers, PACS administrators, and vendors from around the world come together to explore the emerging field of informatics.

At the SIIM Annual Meeting, you will find a comprehensive educational and scientific program that is widely considered the best in the field and that offers imaging informatics expertise and in-depth programming. SIIM is where you’ll experience personal interaction, challenging dialogue and debates, innovative problem solving, and ample networking opportunities with peers and corporate representatives.

The SIIM Annual Meeting program has been re-structured into Learning Tracks to offer different types of learning and a more interactive focus, with an emphasis on problem-solving and solutions that users can take home to their facilities. All Learning Tracks contain three components – a scientific session, an educational session, and an applied learning session.

General Sessions - The general sessions include the opening and closing sessions and the live workflow demonstration. These sessions spotlight core topics of interest to informatics professionals. Invited speakers and key thought leaders in the field address major issues regarding digital imaging and the electronic medical practice. Beginning in 2009, a new general session lecture named in memory of Samuel J. Dwyer III, PhD, FSIIM will feature a SIIM Fellow.

Educational Sessions - These interactive sessions feature experts on a topic who present innovative techniques and concepts to serve as a catalyst for group discussion. The focus is on problem-solving, troubleshooting daily issues, and sharing take-home knowledge that attendees can apply at their own facilities. Sessions promote advanced learning through discussion and interaction and include presentations and guidance from subject-matter experts in an informal format that is conducive to give-and-take among participants.

Scientific Sessions - The scientific program emphasizes hypothesis-driven content and spotlights the science at the heart of the SIIM annual meeting. Session leaders facilitate small group discussions among researchers and attendees to promote knowledge exchange and debate among peers. The scientific program of SIIM includes peer-reviewed research presented as papers, posters and demonstration exhibits, as well as a Research & Development Symposium, New Investigator Travel Awards, and the Roger A. Bauman Award for Best Student Paper.

Applied Learning Sessions - Connect with other attendees and experts in the field through hands-on, applied-learning sessions. These highly collaborative and practical sessions allow participants to explore innovative techniques and tools first-hand with experts in the field. Sessions are smaller to allow knowledge exchange in an informal and collegial setting and to foster mentoring relationships. Sessions take several formats to explore practical imaging informatics solutions, including learning labs, interactive demos, plug fests, connectathons, and debates.

Roundtable Discussions - These small group sessions facilitate discussions that focus on topics of interest to select audiences and provide a unique opportunity for networking.

Technical Exhibits - Come face to face with the most innovative medical imaging technology available today!  More than 130 companies showcase the most exciting new concepts available on the market.  The exhibit hall offers attendees the opportunity to observe trends, take part in product demonstrations, and stay abreast of technical innovations in the imaging industry. Access to this number of vendors in one place provides an outstanding educational opportunity for you to learn more about available technologies.

Educational Meetings & Courses

Based on the activities of the SIIM committees, educational programs are directed and developed by committee members.  The following are examples of such programs:

Regional Meeting - The SIIM Education Committee has designed regional meetings to:

  1. Maximize interactivity and networking at the local level, and
  2. Educate constituents on the biggest issues facing medical imaging informatics.

Imaging Informatics Professional (IIP) Bootcamp - The Imaging Informatics Professional Education Subcommittee has developed a pre-conference course and a roadmap to imaging informatics presentations at the SIIM Annual Meeting.

TRIP - The R&D Committee has organized a major TRIP  conference and several smaller forums to address the crisis of image overload.

User Group Meetings

SIIM-affiliated user group meetings for special interest groups of a corporation's medical imaging technology help advance the effectiveness and utilization of systems by promoting the free interchange of information. User group educational meetings are held annually the day preceding the SIIM Annual Meeting.

Continuing Education

The SIIM annual meeting, regional meetings, and online courses provide CME and/or CE credit to attendees, as well as certificates of attendance for IIPs to track certification and re-certification continuing education eligibility requirements for ABII.

CME activities are planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials and Standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through a joint sponsorship of the Society of Interventional Radiology and SIIM.
