The Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) convened its Annual Meeting at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Kissimmee, Florida. The Society’s mission focuses on advancing the imaging informatics field by fostering education, research, and innovation.

The SIIM Annual Meeting is where the enterprise imaging community comes together to recognize the achievements of its diverse membership. The following awards and prizes were presented during this year’s Annual Meeting.

New College of SIIM Fellows

Honors were awarded to:

  • Chris Meenan, CIIP, FSIIM
  • Christopher Roth, MD, MMCI, FSIIM
  • Nabile SafdarMD, MPH, FSIIM
  • Teri Sippel Schmidt, MS, FSIIM

with their induction into the SIIM College of Fellows on Thursday, June 9. Their exceptional accomplishments and talents reflect the highest standards of SIIM.

The Samuel J. Dwyer Lectureship

The 2022 Dwyer Lecture, Imaging Informatics: An Unexpected Journey, was awarded to Richard H. Wiggins III, MD, CIIP, FSIIM, Associate Dean of CME, Professor of Radiology, and Imaging Sciences at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center.

The Annual Dwyer Lecture features a SIIM Fellow as the presenter of a particularly relevant and insightful topic in honor of Samuel J. Dwyer III, PhD – the humble, prolific pioneer of digital medical imaging.

HONORARY AWARDS

Individual achievements were recognized in the field of medical imaging informatics through the following Honorary Awards:

The Gold Medal of the Society Award

Presented to Katherine P. Andriole, PhD, FSIIM, MGH & BWH Center for Clinical Data Science and Bradley J. Erickson, MD, PhD, CIIP, FSIIM, Mayo Clinic.

Awarded annually in recognition of outstanding accomplishments in research or implementation of imaging informatics applications.

The Dr. Joe Gitlin Award

Presented to Steve G. Langer, PhD, CIIP, FSIIM, Mayo Clinic.

Awarded annually in recognition of outstanding lifetime contributions to the field of imaging informatics through the development of innovative, high-impact solutions.

The Dr. Ruth Dayhoff Award for the Advancement of Women in Medical Imaging Informatics

Presented to Nikki Fennell, CIIP, Change Healthcare.

Awarded annually in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of imaging informatics by a woman or presented to a woman dedicated to the advancement and promotion of women in imaging informatics.

The Imaging Informatics Innovator Award

Presented to Chris Hafey, Amazon Web Services and Safwan Halabi, MD, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

Presented annually for extraordinary achievements in informatics technology development that show strong promise or potential impact in Imaging or medicine.

The Early Career Achievement Award

Presented to Veronica Rotemberg, MD, PhD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Presented in recognition of significant and innovative technical contributions in imaging informatics to someone whose highest earned degree has been awarded within 10 years of the date of nomination.

The Educator Award

Presented to Omer A. Awan, MD, MPH, CIIP, University of Maryland Medical Center.

Given annually in recognition of outstanding contributions to imaging informatics education by a SIIM instructor or educator in the field.

SCIENTIFIC AWARDS

Using a peer review process, the following scientific awards were presented for outstanding contributions to the field of medical imaging informatics:

Best Scientific Paper Award

Presented to Steven Rothenberg, MD, Assistant Professor, University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Awarded for scientific merit, relevance to the community, and quality of scientific presentation.

The Roger A. Bauman, MD Award

Presented to Kesavan Venkatesh, Johns Hopkins Biomedical Engineering and University of Maryland Medical Intelligent Imaging (UM2ii) Center.

Awarded for the best student paper and named to honor Dr. Bauman’s distinguished career in radiological informatics research and practice and his status as Founding Editor of the Journal of Digital Imaging.

The Helen and Paul Chang Foundation New Investigator Travel Awards
