FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Leesburg, VA — May 19, 2022 — David E. Avrin, M.D., Ph.D. is retiring as Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Journal of Imaging Informatics in Medicine (JIIM), the official journal of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM). Among other achievements, David navigated JIIM through unprecedented increase in submissions during the pandemic and grew the diversity of Associate Editors through recruitment of clinical experts in Digital Dermatology, Pathology, and Ophthalmology, as well as the Radiology subspecialties during his three years as Editor. This enabled JIIM to provide more comprehensive review for the increasing submissions of Machine Learning papers on specific clinical topics.

Regarding David’s tenure as JIIM EIC, Marc Kohli MD, Chair of SIIM’s Board of Directors said: “David’s strategic vision as well as his extensive network in the imaging informatics community were critical to moving JDI forward, and we thank him heartily for his service.”

A long-time supporter of JIIM, David had served on the Editorial Board since 2003 and been a JDI reviewer since 1998. Additionally, David has been a dedicated SIIM volunteer served as Chair, Board of Directors not once, but twice: in 1991 and 1997 when SIIM was named the Radiology Information System Consortium (RISC) and the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR), respectively. The College of SIIM Fellows (COSF) recognized David’s contributions in 2000, when he was inducted.

SIIM has launched a search for our next Editor in Chief for JIIM. Interested individuals are invited to send their curriculum vitae as well as vision statement/relevant experiences (2-page max) by June 30, 2022 to Cheryl Kreider Carey, MBA, CAE, Chief Executive Officer, Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) either by mail: 19440 Golf Vista Plaza, Suite 330, Leesburg, VA 20176; or by email: ccarey@siim.org.
