Dedicated to helping uplift the informatics community, the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) recently held its annual interactive Board of Directors (BOD) Strategic Retreat, which surpassed my expectations as a first-time attendee.

Zealously named March Madness, the hybrid retreat stretched over two days via Zoom and in-person in beautiful Santa Barbara while utilizing Miro Board’s collaborative platform. Having previously identified the primary goals for the 2024 strategic plan, the purpose of the retreat was to layer in tactics and metrics and have fun while we were doing it. Well, we most certainly did!

The schedule was broken down into phases, including assessing the strategic goals while looking for any synergies, overlaps, and gaps, then assigning value to tactics according to impact and resources (both financial and human).

I have to admit, I was a bit nervous and silently questioned if I deserved a seat at the table with such aspirational leaders. Thankfully, those feelings were short-lived, as the tone of the expertly facilitated retreat provided a safe space to appreciate everyone’s perspective and objective input. To top it off, I got the chance to not only geek out with my fellow informaticists during the meeting and over delicious meals, I was doubled over laughing more times than I can count. I left knowing that, without a doubt, I belong at SIIM. #YouBelongatSIIM
