SIIM 2017 Annual Meeting – Bridging the Transformation to a New Era in Medicine

Inspiring keynotes will highlight innovation and insight in the changing landscape of machine intelligence and cybersecurity.

Leesburg, VA — January 13, 2017 — SIIM will continue to lead the change in imaging informatics at the SIIM 2017 Annual Meeting June 1 – June 3 in Pittsburgh, PA. The conference will focus on issues most relevant to the field of enterprise imaging informatics with emphasis on machine intelligence and cybersecurity.

The Opening General Session, 2017 Dwyer Lecture will feature Keith Dreyer, DO, PhD, FSIIM, Vice Chair of Radiology and Director of the Center for Clinical Data Science at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor of Radiology at the Harvard Medical School. Dreyer is an internationally renowned informatics expert and has lectured worldwide on clinical data science, cognitive computing, clinical decision support, clinical language understudying, digital imaging standards and implications of technology on the quality of healthcare and payment reform initiatives. In his lecture “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence: Medical Imaging’s Next Frontier,” Dreyer will explore the state of clinical data science in medical imaging and its potential to improve the quality and relevance of imaging as well as the lives of patients.

The Closing General Session will feature Greg Shannon, PhD, Chief Scientist for the CERT® Division at Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute. Dr. Shannon recently served as the Assistant Director for Cybersecurity Strategy for the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy (OSTP). In his role, he focused on accelerating innovation and policy to create effective cybersecurity technologies and practices. He has testified before Congress on cybersecurity, science for security, critical infrastructure, resilience, and cyber threats.

Shannon’s keynote “Weaving the Fabric of Trust: Security, Privacy, Resilience, and Accountability” will cover the growing importance of cybersecurity in healthcare and enterprise imaging due to increasing reliance on interoperability and communication with computer systems, the internet, wireless networks, smartphones, and other smart technology devices. Shannon states, “The role of cybersecurity in healthcare is to build trust with patients, providers, and society. New cybersecurity technologies are emerging that ensure security, privacy, resilience, and accountability, which are all essential elements for trust.”
