This course covers healthcare IT systems, focusing on networking and imaging technology components. Students will learn about security mechanisms, network troubleshooting, and binary/hexadecimal encoding interpretation. Topics include data representations, network technology (ISO model, TCP/IP), implementation (LAN/WAN, internet), hardware, security (authentication, authorization, confidentiality, integrity), and archiving architecture.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Analyze and differentiate between different networking technology components used in healthcare IT systems, including the ISO model, TCP/IP protocol, and Ethernet, to effectively design and implement network infrastructure.
  • Evaluate and identify major imaging technology infrastructure parts, such as archives and databases, in healthcare IT systems, and develop strategies for efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Apply binary and hexadecimal encoding techniques to interpret and manipulate pixel annotations in healthcare IT systems, ensuring accurate and efficient image representation and transmission.
  • Implement and configure various security mechanisms, including authentication, authorization, and secure connections, to protect healthcare IT systems from unauthorized access and ensure data confidentiality and integrity.
  • Perform basic network troubleshooting tasks, such as diagnosing network connectivity issues and resolving common network errors, to maintain optimal performance and reliability of healthcare IT systems.
