In the early fall of 2025, SIIM partnered with The MarkeTech Group to explore how hospital-based imaging administrators are approaching AI adoption in radiology. The MarkeTech Group manages imagePRO™, a longitudinal panel of approximately 500 U.S. hospital imaging directors and administrators representing roughly 25% of the nation’s hospital purchasing power for medical imaging solutions. Through their Market Pulse survey series, they conduct quick, targeted research studies to capture real-time insights from decision-makers who oversee staffing, purchasing, and strategic development of imaging services.

For this collaboration, SIIM’s AI Industry Liaison Subcommittee (formerly Machine Learning Industry Liaison Subcommittee) Leadership contributed to the survey design focusing on platform preferences for AI tools and barriers to adoption. The study received 93 responses from MarketTech’s membership of sites with imaging directors and administrators across diverse hospital settings—ranging from small community hospitals to large academic medical centers.

The results reveal important trends in how imaging leadership is navigating AI integration, including strong preferences for hybrid cloud storage models (49%), most usage of AI tools on PACS platforms’ (35%), and cost as the leading barrier to adoption (29%). Notably, 79% identified imaging directors as the primary champions for AI purchases, underscoring the critical role of radiology leadership in driving AI implementation.

These findings complement SIIM’s AI Industry Liaison Subcommittee’s latest survey on AI in Clinical Practice, which examines adoption, usage, deployment strategies, barriers, and ROI from the radiologist perspective within SIIM’s membership base. Together, these radiology market polls provide a view of AI implementation from both the administrative decision-maker and end-user clinician perspectives. Stay tuned for the full AI in Clinical Practice survey results, which are planned for publication in Q1 2026.
