FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Leesburg, VA – May 9, 2025

The Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) is excited to unveil the next generation of hands-on learning with the launch of the SIIM Virtual Hospital Platform (VHP) 2.0 SIIMulator at the SIIM25 Annual Meeting & Informatics Tech Expo, taking place May 21-23 in vibrant Portland, OR.

Designed for today’s imaging informaticist, the upgraded SIIM VHS simulator delivers a dynamic, interactive sandbox experience that lets participants master medical image management in a virtual hospital environment. With a streamlined interface and enhanced scalability, SIIM VHP 2.0 makes it easier than ever for learners to access immersive training–whether they’re just starting out or sharpening advanced skills. Additionally, more participants can engage simultaneously, expanding opportunities for collaborative learning and skill-building.

“Simulations are among the most powerful adult learning exercises, providing participants the opportunity to get as close as possible to real-world experiences,” said Barry Chovitz, MA, SIIM’s newly appointed Director of SIIM Training. With over 20 years’ experience in adult education across the healthcare and pharmaceutical supply chain, primarily in the Global South, Barry brings a fresh vision to SIIM’s training initiatives and is eager to champion the VHP’s impact.

SIIM’s VHP 2.0 is the result of an innovative partnership with the m-Health & e-Health Development and Innovation Centre (MEDIC) at Mohawk College’s IDEAWORKS in Hamilton, Ontario. Jeff McIsaac, Dean of Applied Research and Dean of Engineering Technology & Aviation, said “As a federally funded Technology Access Centre (TAC), MEDIC is proud to support the development and acceleration of innovative technologies like VHP. This platform marks a meaningful advancement in healthcare simulation and will provide lasting benefits to learners, practitioners, and communities across Canada.”

Featuring a rich library of anonymized images from multiple specialties, including radiology and pathology, the SIIM VHS simulator has the capacity to incorporate a wide range of other image types. This makes it a versatile tool for both new and experienced imaging informaticists seeking practical, hands-on learning. The platform is conveniently available through SIIM’s learning environment and will be offered on a subscription basis to maximize accessibility.

Don’t miss your chance to experience the future of imaging informatics training! Visit the SIIM booth at SIIM25 for a live demonstration of this powerful new tool.
