Data elements included for Diagnostic Imaging in USCDI (United States Core Data for Interoperability) versions have been limited to the type of test and the resulting Diagnostic Imaging Report.  With the release of USCDI Version 7, Diagnostic Imaging Reference has been added which is the information that can be used to access a diagnostic imaging study.

While standards such as DICOM and HL7 have the technical capabilities to support this new data element, challenges can arise due to the way in which these standards may currently be implemented at an organization.  Learn how these standards were tested in the SMART Imaging Access Argonaut Project as well as how current work such as upcoming DICOM security supplements and HL7 updates to the US Core Implementation Guide support interoperable health information exchange.

Objectives

  1. Understand what the inclusion of Diagnostic Imaging Reference to USCDI v7 means.
  2. Understand where to look for information within the standards to support interoperability.
  3. Be educated on what to ask for vendors in products and upcoming RFPs.
