This training is an introduction to the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) standard. This course covers the essentials of FHIR® including its architecture, design principles, various aspects of implementation,  maturity model, as well as relationship with V2/V3/CDA. Participants will learn how FHIR® enables the exchange of healthcare information across different systems, devices, and organizations.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Define the key principles and components of the FHIR® standard, including its
architecture, design, maturity model, and various aspects of implementation.
  • Explain how FHIR® enables the exchange of healthcare information across different
    systems, devices, and organizations.
  • Analyze FHIR® use cases and develop FHIR®-based solutions for real-world healthcare
    scenarios.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of FHIR® implementation in healthcare settings and suggest
    improvements where necessary.
  • Understand the fundamental differences between FHIR® and previous HL7 standards such as v2, v3 and CDA.

Format/Class Structure

This is a live, virtual course held on SIIM’s Zoom platform. Participants will engage in instructor-led, interactive learning with hands-on training using SIIM’s Virtual Hospital Program (VHP).
