In DICOM, the Radiotherapy (RT) Plan object addresses the requirements for transferring radiation therapy plans between devices.

A RT Plan object can be generated from manually entered data, from virtual simulation systems, and from treatment planning systems. An RT Plan will contain geometric and dosimetric data specifying a course of external beam or brachytherapy treatment. Specifics such as beam angles, collimator openings, beam modifiers, and brachytherapy channel and source specifications are included.

An RT Plan object usually references an RT Structure Set to define a coordinate system and set of patient structures.
