This profile establishes the continuity and integrity of basic departmental imaging data acquired in an environment where examinations are generally being ordered. This profile specifies a number of transactions that maintain the consistency of patient and ordering information as well as defining the scheduling and imaging acquisition procedure steps.

This profile is the most important and commonly implemented profile in the IHE radiology domain and is especially important for modalities.
