In a client/server architecture, a thin client is a computer or piece of software where the processing load is handled by a centralized server. When compared to other network architectures, this arrangement has the advantage of easier maintenance, upgrades, and regular updates, such as virus protection or fixes for newly discovered security issues. Many recent imaging applications are Web-based. The Web application primarily provides for the controls and display or displays for the application. The Web server processes the inputs from the Web application user and returns the display with images selected, processed, or measured (for example).
