What is your current imaging informaticist role?

I’m a Senior Member and Professor at the Departments of Pathology and Machine Learning, as well as the Scientific Director at the Analytic Microscopy Core of Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute in Tampa, FL. I’m honored to be the first pathologist member of the SIIM board!

What is your SIIM Persona?

Clinician.

What do you love most about imaging informatics?

Pathology generates a huge amount of imaging data responsible for approximately 70% of the medical decision-making. I love that imaging informatics will unleash the power of pathological data to benefit patient care, especially in the era of precision medicine.

What one thing – either industry-related or not – you learned in the last month?

Being open-minded is essential to understand that truth is a multiplicity of perspectives.

How do you define success?

Success is working towards the greatest passion in life and career so that the lives of others are also enriched.

People love the networking at SIIM. Do you have a networking/mentor story?

I got connected with SIIM in 2019 when I was the President of the Digital Pathology Association. Both organizations recognize the synergy of what we are doing to advance imaging informatics, thus collaboration and partnership come naturally. Within SIIM, I got connected with many talented, dynamic, and passionate colleagues and have had the opportunities of contributing to SIIM’s annual meeting as a committee member and a presenter, to the Journal of Digital Imaging in Medicine as an associate editorial board member, to the HIMSS-SIIM Enterprise Imaging Community, and now to the SIIM Board. As a practicing pathologist with an interest and expertise in pathology imaging informatics, I wish to serve as a facilitator for collaboration and a catalyst for transformation in medical imaging informatics.
