What is your current imaging informaticist role?
Director of Dermatology Imaging Informatics.
What do you love most about imaging informatics?
I come from an engineering background (my PhD is actually in POCUS!), so my favorite thing about imaging informatics is how solution oriented it is. It is honestly SO satisfying to come up with and implement a technical solution to a clinical or governance problem, I don’t think I’ll ever get over it.
If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose?
Oh no I can’t pick anyone – I’ve been so fortunate to have so many close mentors both in and out of SIIM!
What one thing, either industry-related or not, did you learn in the last month?
I am learning a LOT about language models, which has been fun and new!
How do you define success?
This is so hard! I think that success is being fulfilled professionally and personally. I think we are so lucky to be in a field that is so fulfilling – at the end of the day, our jobs are to help patients and each other, and it’s so satisfying to be working toward this every day.
What’s the last book you read or TV series you binged?
Haha my five-year-old is extremely into Numberblocks – I think I’ve watched the entire series more than three times!
People love the networking at SIIM. Do you have a networking story?
I do! At SIIM 2019 I remember we were at a session and Les Folio asked all the dermatologists to stand up! It was actually so funny to be the only one standing and Les came up to me after the talk to ask me to join his multimedia reporting workgroup. Since that was part of the HIMSS-SIIM Enterprise Imaging Community, I joined that community, and it opened up so many volunteer opportunities and connections. I am so excited that there are a lot more dermatologists and all subspecialists at SIIM these days!
