Inspired by the recent August 2022 Special Imaging Sharing Edition of the Journal of Imaging Informatics in Medicine (JIIM) – How Image Exchange Breaks Down: the Image Library Perspective paper, a panel of experts will share their advice on how to optimize the sharing of imaging exam data.

Among the topics that will be explored, include methods to automatically reconcile outside exams to internal identifiers and descriptions using APIs provided by the EMR, retention policies for different use cases (like exam prior, teleradiology, clinical access, etc.), job skills needed in today’s image library management roles, and change management methods to alter behaviors from exporting imaging exam data to portable media to more reliable and efficient online methods.

The webinar panel will be moderated by Don Dennison, CIIP, FSIIM and participants encouraged to provide questions throughout the interactive session.Portions of JIIM are members only. Please log into your SIIM account prior to navigating to the Journal.

Objectives

  • Explore best practices for imaging exam data sharing from experts
  • Help participants assess their enterprise’s image sharing capabilities and practices
  • Provide insight to methods for imaging exam exchange that can be applied at enterprises

Building, Processing, and Governing Clinical Imaging Datasets: Foundations for AI

May 11, 2026

This final session in the series will discuss extracting structured and unstructured data from EHR systems, retrieving DICOM metadata and images from PACS, linking imaging to outcomes, and managing de-identification and IRB oversight. Emphasis will be placed on data quality, reproducibility, governance frameworks, and the operational realities of AI integration. The session will clarify how robust data infrastructure underpins trustworthy algorithm development and clinical deployment.
