Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) is rapidly expanding across clinical settings, from emergency medicine to inpatient care. Unlike traditional order-based imaging, POCUS is often performed at the bedside without a prior order, making it challenging to manage images, documentation, and downstream integration. The IHE Encounter-Based Imaging Workflow (EBIW) profile addresses these challenges by standardizing how POCUS exams are captured, documented, and linked to patient encounters. This webinar will explore how EBIW ensures complete and accurate records, supports compliance and billing requirements, and enables interoperability with PACS, EHRs, and enterprise imaging platforms—ultimately improving both clinician workflow and patient care.

Objectives

  • Explain the role of encounter-based imaging in supporting point-of-care ultrasound.
  • Describe how the IHE EBIW profile improves documentation, compliance, and enterprise integration of POCUS.
  • Identify clinical scenarios where EBIW enhances workflow efficiency and continuity of care.
