Vibe coding, the practice of building functional tools through natural language prompts and AI-assisted development, is rapidly lowering the barrier to create their own solutions without formal programming training. This session combines a focused didactic overview of vibe coding concepts and best practices in healthcare contexts with real world examples to give a taste of what it feels like to turn a clinical question into a working solution in real time. Discussion will also include important considerations extending beyond tool creation, including best practices for robust application security and working with sensitive data. Attendees will be equipped to build a preliminary app based on the introductory concepts discussed in this session.

Objectives

  • Describe the core principles of vibe coding and explain how AI-assisted, natural language development can be used to rapidly create healthcare applications without extensive programming experience.
  • Identify best practices for developing secure AI-assisted applications, including considerations for application security, sensitive healthcare data, and responsible implementation.
  • Provide introductory vibe coding techniques to design and build a simple prototype application that addresses a clinical or operational healthcare use case using natural language prompts and AI-assisted tools.
