Healthcare data has expanded far beyond structured tables and reports. Imaging, pathology, audio, video, waveforms, and clinical text now coexist and are reused across care delivery, research, quality improvement, and emerging technologies. Yet many data governance frameworks were developed for a much narrower view of healthcare data.

This webinar is an invitation to a conversation about what data governance means in a multimodal healthcare environment. Together, as members of the HIMSS and SIIM communities, we will discuss how we define data governance today, what priorities deserve the most attention, and where existing approaches fall short when data spans multiple modalities, systems, and use cases.

Rather than prescribing solutions, the session focuses on building shared understanding of what governance should protect, enable, and balance, including patient trust, ethical research, operational realities, and responsible data sharing.

Objectives

  • Clarify how data governance is defined and applied in a multimodal healthcare environment, including imaging, pathology, audio, video, waveforms, and clinical text.
  • Discuss key governance priorities and challenges when multimodal data is reused across care delivery, traditional research, and quality improvement.
  • Identify gaps in current governance approaches and areas requiring further attention and collaboration.
